Metallurgy Laboratory

Metallurgy Laboratory
Metallurgy Laboratory of Jahad Sharif, as a subdivision of the Materials Research Center, was established in 1981 to support the research and development projects performed in the Technology Development Institute.
By exploitation of new equipments in 2005 and counting on expert staff and management system, the Lab services were expanded to various industries, i.e. Automobile, Aerospace, Gas and Petroleum, Turbines construction, etc.
The Lab performs characterization and quality control metallurgical tests on metallic materials according to the national and international standards. The ISO/IEC 17025-2005 international standard was granted to the Lab by National Accreditation Center of Iran (NACI) in 2010.
Lab Services
Metallurgical Lab services are divided into two groups:
1- Processing of amorphous and nanocrystalline ribbons/foils by rapid solidification process
§ Preparation of amorphous and nanocrystalline ribbons with a width of 0.5-2mm and a thickness of 20-50µm by Chill Block Melt Spinning process
§ Production of rapidly solidified foils having 2-20mm width by Planar Flow Casting process for magnetic and brazing applications
§ Induction melting and alloying under protective gas
§ Heat treatment under argon flow
2- Metallurgical quality control tests according to national and international standards
§ Spectrometry
§ Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
§ Carbon/Sulfur Determination
§ Tension test
§ Bending test
§ Compression test
§ Impact test
§ Micro- and Macrohardness
§Spring constant
§ Microstructure examination and Macrography
§ Non-destructive metallography (Replica) and sulfur print
§ Measurement of coating thickness and grain size
§Determination of inclusions content in steels
§ PQR tests according to ASTM Sec.IX and AWS DI.I
§ Tests on nuts, bolts and fasteners
§ Tests on sheets and plates
§ Tests on welded and seamless carbon steel pipes and tubes
§ Tests on hot-rolled steel bars
§ Tests on structural steels
